The Pontevedra's area is considered one of the most beautiful provinces of Spain, thanks to its terrain named Rias Bajas with its magic landscapes. Since Romans have named it as Ad Duos Pontes, Pontevedra's character had through many centuries remained in form of shipyards, fishing port and intensive commercial activity. In merge of the rivers Leres and Pontevedry the kernel of spotty streets enclosed with a wall and the lonely areas has developed. In the centre of an old city the area of Spain and the eclectic building of Municipality constructed in a XIX-th century is located. Another interesting point of ancient Pontevedra is the Pilgrim's Temple (XVIII century) which has kept to this day an image of the mistress of a city. Work of Portuguese architect Antonio Souto, possesses almost round base and a baroque facade with the several neoclassicists of a XVIII-th century added later. Opposite to this temple there is a popular area of the Foundry workshop. The local Museum of Pontevedra - one of the most important in Galicia. Its funds are distributed between ruins of Santo-Domingo and other four buildings leaving on the area de la Lenia. In its collection - a wide spectrum of samples of medieval art, Spanish and European paintings XVI - XVIII century, as well as some works of national Galician artists.
